Welcome to Session!

We offer three different climbing options

BOULDERING

TOP ROPE & AUTO BELAY

LEAD CLIMBING

Participants must pass a certification test to top-rope belay, autobelay, and lead belay. Bouldering does not require a special certification.

Next Steps

1. Prepare for your visit

Filling out a waiver before you arrive will save you 10 minutes. All visitors are required to complete a waiver, even if you are not going to be using the facility. Staff will verify the information on all waivers for individuals 18 years and older with a state appointed ID or Driver’s License.

Waivers for minors must be filled out by the parent or state-appointed legal guardian of each climber. If your child is climbing with a friend, be sure to have their parent/legal guardian fill out the form online before they arrive.

Clothes

It’s recommended to wear athletic clothing. If you’ll be wearing a harness, we recommend wearing longer shorts or pants. Your clothing should have enough stretch so that you can reach those far-away holds!

Shoes

At Session, climbing shoes are required for all climbers to ensure a clean and safe experience on our walls—athletic shoes or barefoot climbing are not permitted to avoid outside contamination on the holds. We offer climbing shoe rentals for $5, and recommend bringing socks, but first-time visitors and guests using member guest passes receive free rentals.

We have open cubbies available for you to stash your personal items. We also have lockers in the restroom.

WHAT IS REQUIRED IN THE TOP-ROPE BELAY TEST?2024-11-21T16:05:35-08:00

Harness

When being tested on their knowledge for belaying, the participant must put on a harness correctly, per the specifications of the harness manufacturer. When being tested as the climber, the participant must demonstrate how to properly tie a figure-8 follow through with at least 6 inches of tail.

Belayer

Participant must properly set up an approved brake assisted belay device per manufacturers’ specifications. Session’s preferred brake assisted belay device is the Petzl Grigri.

Technique

Participant must demonstrate a proficiency in top-rope belaying. The belayer’s brake hand must remain in constant control of the brake strand of the rope. Belayer must immediately and properly catch at least one simulated top-rope fall and lower them safely while keeping the brake hand below the belay device.

Checks

Participant must provide a double-check that the carabiner attached to their belay device is locked and attached correctly to the harness, their figure-8 follow through it well dressed, and that their harness is on correctly.

3. Arrive 10 minutes early.

All visitors received a facility orientation through the video you watched before filling out the waiver. This orientation included a safety overview and general facility information. You’ll also need time to get outfitted with your harness and climbing shoes.
